- The world of rugby league had its domestic finals this weekend. It was a double victory for the Sydney Roosters, as they defeated the Newcastle Knights to win the men’s Grand Final 19-18, while the women’s team romped over the Brisbane Broncos to win the title 30-6. In the northern hemisphere, it was a final without the traditional powers, as Wakefield Trinity beat Warrington Wolves 23-10 to claim their first championship. Spare a thought for Warrington, who are now 0-5 in championship matches.
- Alex Ovechkin announced that this will be his final season in the NHL, playing his whole career with the Washington Capitals. While only winning one championship, Ovechkin emerged as the best player since Wayne Gretzky, even breaking Gretzky’s career goal record, and winning three Hart Memorial Trophies (MVP) among other accolades. He will now be able to pursue his passion of appearing in Putin propaganda videos.
- Natalia Silva won the vacant UFC Women’s Flyweight Title with a decision win over Wang Cong at UFC 332. The event was packed with exciting finishes, but the card was criticized heavily by fans for being low-quality for a numbered UFC event. The company moved the event from Paramount+ to CBS as a result, and there’s a much better numbered card later this month, so the only people who really got screwed were the Utah tourism department an fans who expected a much bigger show.
