Welcome to the Movie Club! Today’s movie is David Fincher’s Zuckerberg biopic The Social Network.
The Social Network stars Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, and it follows the site’s creation and rise in popularity, using two depositions (one between Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin, and another between Zuckerberg and the Winklevoss twins) to frame and structure the narrative.
The Social Network premiered on September 24, 2010 at the New York Film Festival, before its wider release in North America on October 1.1 It was a hit with critics, earning a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes and multiple awards, including 8 Oscar nominations and 3 wins.2 It was well received by audiences too, and went on to earn $225 million against a budget of $40 million.3

- The twins were portrayed by having actor Josh Pence stand in for the second twin, with Armie Hammer’s face then CGI’d over top.
- Jesse Eisenberg has no Facebook account but made a fake one, as Andrew Garfield, to check it out. He claims to have made no friends in that time on the site aside from Andrew Garfield’s own alias account.
