WHY IT’S GREAT: Hear me out! A lot of fans hate this album, but I love it, although I recognize it’s got an Eighties production which feels dated to many fans. But here Paul decided to take some chances, and produced some of his most experimental material, cowriting many of the tracks with Eric Stewart of 10cc fame. I love the adventurousness, the sound, the songs. It’s probably my favorite McCartney album in many ways.
BEST SONGS: Stranglehold, a nice rocker; Footprints, a lovely acoustic ballad; Press, which takes some getting used to but is a frisky, sexy romp; Pretty Little Head, with an African beat; Angry, a rocker with Pete Townshend on guitar and Phil Collins on drums.
WORST SONGS: However Absurd is kind of weird even for this record. I don’t skip it, though.
WHY YOU SHOULD TRY IT: I think it’s terribly underrated. YMMV. (Please, Paul, rerelease this with all the bonus tracks and remixes!!!!)
