Spoil Sports: Bridgerton Season 4, Episodes 1-4

Hello friends and welcome back to Bridgerton, the gritty historical drama about the hardships of life in early 19th century England.

Haha, I kid, this show is about kissing.

Based on the novel series by Julia Quinn, the Netflix series follows the romantic adventures of the eight children of the Bridgerton family in Regency England. Season 1 (2020) followed eldest daughter Daphne, Season 2 (2022) Anthony, eldest son and current Viscount Bridgeron, and Season 3 (2024), family friend Penelope Featherington alongside third son Colin. A 2023 spinoff series featured the story of Queen Charlotte and everyone’s favorite adorkable romantic lead ::checks notes:: King George III.

The fourth season focuses on the eldest spare-to-heir, second son Benedict1There’s also a whole alphabetical name thing going on too in case you haven’t noticed. Good luck, pal!

Oh, also, the show, unlike the book, incorporates characters of various ethnic backgrounds in what could have been straight-up colorblind casting, but instead is increasingly committed to being an alternate history? It also has woven in a few LGBTQ+ subplots. So we’ll see how the shows handles those threads in Season 4.

Anyhoo, have fun out there kids!
