Adam Park is a Teenager With Attitude. Adam was the second Mighty Morphin’ Black Ranger1In TV continuity, at least. In comics continuity, there was the 1969 team that fought the Green Psycho Ranger on the moon, but let’s not worry about that right now., replacing Zack Taylor when the latter Ranger was chosen to go to the World Peace Summit in Switzerland.2As noted in a previous Teenagers With Attitude, in comics continuity, this was a ruse covering up Zack joining the Omega Rangers, protecting the universe from galaxy-level threats Originally from Stone Canyon, Adam became involved with the Power Rangers in their civilian personas while chasing a runaway baby carriage down a very, very long hill.3Seriously, it’s like a three-minute chase sequence. He, along with his friends Rocky and Aisha, later wins a ninja martial arts tournament, attracting the attention of Lord Zedd, who captures them with the intention of turning them into his own evil warriors. They are rescued by the Power Rangers, but in the process, Adam and the others discover the Rangers’ identities, forging a bond that would later lead them to recruit Adam and his friends when the original Rangers needed to be replaced.
Adam is thoughtful, caring, and sensitive. Having been bullied as a youth, he has had confidence issues in the past, but as a Ranger, he is courageous and driven. He even gets to have his own little romance plot with the best villainess, Scorpina, who disguises herself as a human to try to entrap the Rangers by tricking Adam into a date. Adam weathers her plot with assistance from Aisha though, and while he takes this setback hard, he powers through. When the Rangers lose their powers after a disastrous fight with the evil Rito Revolto, Adam and the other Rangers are forced to earn new Ninja powers, trading their dinosaur-based powersets for animal-based ones, leading Adam to gain the powers of the frog.4This happens slightly differently in the movie continuity, which is its own thing
Adam’s Korean heritage comes into play a couple times, first when a heritage paper lantern from his family is turned into a monster by Lord Zedd, then again later when Adam is turned back into a child and must travel through time to Korea where he must retrieve a shard of the Zeo Crystal from an old wise stereotype, Kai Ogi.
With the Zeo Crystal, Adam gains new powers again as the Green Zeo Ranger, then later upgrades once more to the Green Turbo Ranger. He then gives up the Turbo powers to Carlos Vallerte after graduating high school so that he can go off and have his own life. However, Adam retains his Mighty Morphin’ powers in the form of his damaged Power Morpher, though Alpha insists that it is dangerous to use. Despite this, he returns to help when Carlos5Now the Black Space Ranger loses his confidence after an accident in battle leads to one of his comrades getting injured. He uses the dangerous Morpher and returns as the Mighty Morphin’ Black Ranger, temporarily. Years later still, he returns again when the Sentinel Knight restores his Morpher to function so that he can lead a team of veteran Power Rangers when the Operation Overdrive team’s Ranger powers have been destroyed.6By the son of Lord Zedd and Rita. Don’t ask how that works. After serving as replacements for the Overdrive team, Adam goes back to Angel Grove with Alpha 6 and eventually joins Space Patrol Alpha,7Precursor/sister organization to Space Patrol Delta an organization of space peacekeepers, along with Aisha, where he serves to this day.
Have a great Day Thread, and until next time,
It’s Morphin’ Time!
