Fruits of Central America: Cherimoya
Every once in a while I’ll do a quick introduction of a fruit that is either native to, or abundant in Central America. I’ll try to describe it to the best of my abilities
Today we will look at cherimoya. It has been considered native to Ecuador, but grows all over Central America and has been argued to possibly be native to it. Regardless of where it is from (because I haven’t read the paper), the fruit has been cultivated in both Americas prior to the colonization
It has a green, almost scaly looking outer skin with a soft, white interior that is so sweet it’s like a candy. Suprisingly not used as an alternative to cane sugar. It’s a fruit I recommend westerners try a couple of times because it’s a sweetness that won’t be expected out of fruits to western palates
