Now almost a month in; I’ve paid my second installment of rent and my first go-round of the electricity bill, so it’s “official”! After some hemming and hawing, creative work’s started to catch back up; I managed to finish a longstanding illustration and a couple of smallscales, and keeping to a schedule’s proven a lot easier the past month, not least, I suspect, due to the new environs. More space seems to suggest more possibilities, however silly that sounds, and the new neighborhood doesn’t tantalize with the perpetual (and largely unjustified) FOMO that near-downtown living entailed. I don’t feel as uneasy about getting down to work as I used to and it’s happily borne results in terms of graphic work.
Painting’s still another story, as I’ve been getting used to the new setup (pictured in the header). I thought about supergluing a wooden board to the kitchen stool but realized I was way overthinking this after finding a basic TV tray on sale for less than ten bucks, and it’s since served (however briefly) as my easel support. I’m still trying to integrate the process (necessarily more involved than drawing) into my routine, and this should get easier now that it’s cooling down and I’ll be spending more time around the house (guessing I’ll be taking down the pictured window unit in a couple of weeks). So basically… so far, so good.
