Welcome back to the weekly Tabletop Games thread! This thread is where we can talk about all kinds of RPGs, card games, board games, etc. Whether you gather around a physical table in the real world, or use a virtual space to play with friends who may live far away from you, this is where you can discuss your favorites, ask for and/or receive recommendations, recap your recent adventures, or even find some people to play games with!
Discussion Prompt: Last week saw the official release of Daggerheart, the new fantasy TTRPG created by the team behind Critical Role. The game is described as being much more narrative-focused than D&D, and uses a unique dice mechanic known as Duality Dice. Rather than using the d20, most actions will call for a roll of 2 color-coded d12s, one representing Hope and the other Fear. You’re still trying to beat a target number, but which of the two dice rolls higher matters. Rolling with Hope (ie, your Hope die is higher), whether you succeed or fail, builds up a resource that you can use to help your friends or activate certain class abilities. Rolling with Fear, on the other hand, gives the GM a similar resource that can be used against the players. I’ll let Matt Mercer explain a little more.
I haven’t read through the core rulebook, and I wasn’t following the development or playtesting of the game at all, but if you have read and/or played Daggerheart, tell us what you think!
If you would like to suggest a prompt or contribute a write-up or discussion topic of your own, let me know in the comments!
