Had a few ideas for this week’s thread I was bouncing around, but they probably deserve more focus than throwing them together before work. This week we can return to an old History Thread favorite: bad history takes that you’ve encountered recently. Thanks to my recent dive into r/AskHistorians, I’ve found a lot of bizarre claims like “Feminism doomed the Roman Empire” or “the Pilgrims were communists” which are so disconnected from reality one wonders how someone could even come up with them. But then, those are so obviously politically motivated that they don’t bear much reflection – they feed a narrative, and at the end of the day isn’t that what history’s for?
