The 4/2 Day Thread Celebrates My Second Day of Retirement

Today is the second day of the retirement of my life. This isn’t an April Fool’s Day joke. My last day of full-time employment ended on March 31st. After working in the health care sector for almost forty years, I am now done, now and forever.

It feels strange. I’m sure it will take getting used to. I plan to have a schedule of sorts so that I don’t totally veg out. I do want to have a purpose in life; a reason to get up and out of bed every day, apart from the dogs. So I’ll get dressed every day by eight or so, do an hour of chores in the morning and afternoon, run errands and the like. But I also plan to relax. Sometimes I’ll watch TV or films. Sometimes I’ll write. I have ideas for two or three novels. If I can be persistent with them, that is.

I’m thinking about my computer at work. I used a remote desktop; log in and there’s all your files and programs to do your job. I imagine it gathering computer dust without me there to use it. Or does it still exist? Does it have an existence apart from me? Has it been severed?

Questions to ponder while I embark on the final portion of my life, as a passenger rather than a crew member.

Enjoy whatever you do today.
