The Thursday Politics Thread Is Back, All Right!

Recently there was a “blackout day” boycott. Did it work? I don’t know. But it did inspire me to look into the word “boycott.”

Charles Cunningham Boycott, of the Norfolk Boycotts, was an English land agent in Ireland in the late 19th century. As a result of him being an asshole, the locals refused to work his estate, village shops refused to serve him, and he had to resort to writing an op ed in The Times complaining about his treatment by the troublesome Irish. He and his family eventually left the country, and a new word was coined. Look at this grumpy fuck:
