Funding for the federal government runs out at midnight tonight1. There was a deal for short-term funding2 which House Dems were on board with. Then Musk and Trump, but mostly Musk, scuttled it, with Musk making his feelings known via a truly epic Twitter meltdown. So THEN House Republicans came up with their own bill themselves3, and that failed with like 40 Republicans voting against it, but not before Trump took to Truth Social declaring the bill a ‘SUCCESS!’ That bill, by the way, would have gotten rid of the debt ceiling until 2027 because that’s a thing Donald Trump is on now4. And then I went to bed. So what happened last night? Is the government funded yet? Is a shutdown still looming? How much momentum did the ‘Musk as speaker’ movement gain overnight?5 Will I be able to get up early enough to bring you the latest developments?6
It may be a long day in the Disqus mines today, kids. Be nice today. Take care of yourselves.
