American Dad! Season 21, Episode 7 “An Adult Woman”

In which Hayley tries to grow up.

Is Hayley a righteous hippy looking to fight the man or is she a lazy child stuck in arrested development. They’re not necessarily mutually exclusive and it depends on the episode and today’s episode is firmly in the latter

Hayley is all about creating her Hayley Julius (not Orange Hayley because they gotta know it’s her idea) when her hamster adoption person comes to the house. But once the hamster lady sees that Hayley is a mess and high, she reneges on the adoption. Hayley is sad and when Roger’s new person comes in he offers her a chance to connect with his daughter Gilda. Hayley tries to connect with Gilda through Dirty Dancing and going to the mall.

At the mall, the discover a church behind the Church’s Chicken (all Church’s Chickens have them). There Gilda sees an attractive pastor and is instantly enamored with him. Hayley thinks this isn’t a great idea and goes to see the pastor. She tries to sleep with him because she too has the hots for him but then she learns he’s actually on the run from a drug gang. He’s killed and Hayley thinks this solves the problem of Gilda’s crush but Gilda is broken up about it. She tries to announce to a big crowd that she knows about what killed the pastor but Hayley manages to save her in time.

Hayley falls into a coma and has a dream sequence on the set of Dirty Dancing. She wakes up and realizes Gilda wasn’t into the pastor as a crush but as a father figure. She has Roger make up with himself by repeating the lines from Dirty Dancing. They merge to form Raider Dave! After, Hayley is deemed to be responsible and is immediately given a hamster.

Stray Observations

Final Thoughts

A meh episode in a season of meh episodes. The plot kind of sped through a lot to teach Hayley a lesson and even without a B-plot the A-plot zipped along from meeting Gilda to the church stuff to Hayley in a coma.
