The Buckfast Day Thread

When you think of Scotland you probably think of tartan kilts and bagpipes, but another cultural icon of the country is the fortified tonic wine called Buckfast. And similar to tartan (French) and bagpipes (Portuguese) the highly caffeinated alcoholic beverage isn’t Scottish – the Buckfast Abbey is located in Devon, England.

Still, the 15% ABV drink has become notorious across the Central Belt of Scotland (the most populous stretch of land from Glasgow to Edinburgh) as “Wreck the Hoose Juice”, “Commotion Lotion”, “Electric Soup”, “Cumbernauld Rocket Fuel” and “Fucked Fast” – because of it’s popularity with young lads wanting to get as wasted as possible in the shortest amount of time.

It’s traditional for the drinkee to smash the distinctive green bottle on the ground once emptied, but it’s also common to see the bottles standing up in doorways and alleyways – so common in fact I took all of these photographs within one week:
