Welcome to The Avocado’s weekly discussion of Japanese pop culture! In the past, I wasn’t that interested in watching recordings of concerts. I love going to concerts, but sitting in my living room watching one on my TV? Eh. Well, my ever-growing love of Japanese music has changed all of that. Not only am I incapable of actually going to a concert,1The whole not being in Japan thing is a barrier, but even then buying tickets to a concert in Japan without a Japanese phone is a trial, so difficult when visiting. but many of the concerts I’ve seen are so engaging that I’ve found I really, really enjoy watching the recordings. This is especially true for my current favorite, Mrs. GREEN APPLE. A few months ago I ordered the Blu-ray of their “Atlantis” show, waited (im)patiently for it to arrive from Japan, and have since watched it several times. It’s just that good! I had seen a couple songs on YouTube before, but nothing could have prepared me for how amazing the whole show is. I can’t share my favorite moments because they aren’t online, but this clip does a pretty good job of capturing the energy and engagement (I think I may have shared this before, but whatever, it’s really good):
Of course, now I want to see even more of their concerts! I didn’t get the Blu-ray for “NOAH no HAKOBUNE” that released at the same time as “Atlantis”…and that was a mistake. I foolishly thought that ONE concert would be enough. I was very, very wrong. I mean, just look at this clip from the show:
Obviously, I need to see the entire concert. But you may be asking yourself, “Other than documenting Grumproro’s descent into Mrs. GREEN APPLE fanaticism, what was the point of this header?” I’ll tell you! Um, it was for…the music! Yeah, listen to the great music!
And, as always…
What have you been watching/reading/playing/eating/listening to lately?
Happy Wednesday! 🙂
