The Book Nook is Astronomical

Welcome to the Book Nook! The weekly thread for all book nerds on The Avocado. This is the place to talk about books you’re currently reading, discuss genres, ask for recommendations, and post serious literary criticism.

This week’s topic: On Monday, some parts of the world experienced an eclipse. On this date in 837 Haley’s comet made it’s closest approach to Earth, coming within 3.2 million miles (5.1 million kilometers). On this date in 1815, Mount Tambora began a three month long eruption, resulting in, among another things, the sun’s rays being blocked, which brought about the infamous “year without a summer”. What are some interesting fiction or nonfiction books, poems, essays, plays or poems about the sun, the moon, comets, meteors or other phenomenon within our solar system?

Ideas for prompts are always welcome!

Posting pictures is fine as long as they are book related, but I would like this thread to continue to be a NO GIF/YouTube/social media embed zone as much as possible. Thanks, and happy commenting!
