Welcome to The Avocado’s weekly discussion of Japanese pop culture! A few of you already know this, but for everyone else…you should watch 7th Time Loop: The Villainess Enjoys a Carefree Life Married to Her Worst Enemy! I unexpectedly had some free time yesterday, so I decided to check out the first episode because I’ve been hearing great things (here and elsewhere) about this series. It wasn’t really on my radar when it was first announced because the title suggested it wasn’t really going to be “my thing”.1I thought it was isekai (it’s not), and despite my love of otome games I’m not super into “villainess” series (it’s not), even if their shoujosei Turns out, the series is very different than what I thought! I almost don’t want to say too much because it was so fun learning about the concept from watching the first episode, but I’ll at least say that if you enjoyed series like Snow White with the Red Hair and/or The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent, you should definitely check this out. If you didn’t watch those series, but you tend to like fantasy settings with some political intrigue, a mix of action and slice-of-life elements, mysterious characters, and/or compelling romance, give this a try. Or, if you’re the kind of person who can start crying watching a quietly intimate moment between two women painting nails…okay that might just be me but seriously that got me real bad.
Anyway…the story is engaging, the characters are dynamic, and the whole show is so beautiful to look at. And, yes, the romance is working on me! I absolutely love this couple, and I’m really looking forward to seeing where things go from here. I’m already thinking about reading the josei manga based on the light novel because I just want to spend more time with these characters in this world. Also, the opening and ending credits are beautiful!
And, as always…
What have you been watching/reading/playing/eating/listening to lately?
Happy Wednesday! 🙂
