Minnie Riperton, best known for her hit single “Loving You”, was also notably one of the first public figures to come forth with a breast cancer diagnosis. She became a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society, and was presented with the foundation’s Courage Award by President Jimmy Carter.
Riperton had a remarkable five octave vocal range, and is best remembered for her ability to enunciate in the whistle register.
