A Great Big Beautiful Day Thread 12/12

Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is one of Disney Parks’ most iconic rides. It may not be the flashiest, but its history is deeply tied to the parks. The Carousel originally debuted at the 1964 World’s Fair, but its popularity (and General Electric’s lucrative sponsorship) lead to it becoming a fixture at Disneyland in 1967. It only remained in Anaheim until 1973, but that was far from the end of the attraction. Two years later it was moved to its new home in Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida, where it’s still in rotation (heh) to this very day.

Over the years the Carousel has undergone changes to modernize the forward thinking family, and even had a new theme song added when it made the move to The Magic Kingdom. They have since reverted to the original ear worm, but the last serious overhaul to the attraction took place in the mid 90’s, leading to the final scene, taking place in some vague distant future, looking very much like a Sharper Image catalog from ’93.

Some may hope an update to the ride will coincide Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021, but for now it seems the ride will remain unchanged.
