GLAAD’s annual report shows that LGBTQ representation has been on the rise the last few years. I’ll be back to reviews next week but wanted to compile a list of upcoming shows and films.
Upcoming Release Dates
- 8/23/2019 – Vita and Virginia – recently released on Video on Demand.
- 9/6/2019 – Elite. Season 2. Murder mystery in a Spanish prep school. Season one featured 3 openly queer men. The show was great but the trailer makes me suspect a sophomore slump.
- 9/20/2019 – Downton Abbey: The Movie. Will Thomas Barrow at last find love?
- 9/24/2019 – American Horror Story: 1984. Ryan Murphy’s series has issues but has consistently shown LGBT+ rep.
- 9/27/2019 – The Politician. Ben Platt stars in a show about a vicious high school council election.
- 11/22/19 – Frozen 2. I kid. I kid.
In Development
- Ammonite – Saoirse Ronan and Kate Winslet in the 1840’s.
- Benedetta – Italian nuns in love in the 17th century.
- Find Me (Call Me By Your Name 2) – Electric Boogaloo. I’m still not convinced this will make it to production.
- Happiest Season – Kristen Stewart / Mackenzie Davis romcom.
- Love, Simon: The Series – Announced in the gay press but absent from the Disney+ conference.
Film Festivals
Some of these films won’t get wide release, but will tour the festival circuit before coming to streaming services. I’m looking forward to Sell By, The Shiny Shrimps, The Blonde One and the fourth season of Eastsiders.
