Tournament: Best 70s Bands, Round Three

A special goodbye to “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin, who died on the same day you people decided she should lose her matchup against The Ramones. Hope you’re happy.

19 of the top 20 seeded bands won their Round 2 matches. Which ones will fall today?

Here are some results from Round Two:

Worst Shellacking: Jim Croce crashed (too soon?) into David Bowie, losing by 75 votes.

Biggest Upset: There were several upsets this round, but we had our first band from the top 20 seeds fall: Rush (17th seed) was neck-and-neck with ABBA (48th seed) most of the day, but the Swedes managed to beat the Canadians by a mere 5 votes.

Closest Matchup: Television beats Steely Dan by 2 votes.

Winner With The Least Votes: Television (35)

Loser With The Most Votes: Rush (44)

Other Thoughts:

“Operator, well could you help me place this call? See, I need to say goodbye to Jim Croce, Earth Wind and Fire, Van Halen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Roxy Music, The Kinks, Paul Simon, Heart, Van Morrison, Patti Smith, Yes, Cheap Trick, Carole King, Donna Summer, Bee Gees, Funkadelic, Iggy and the Stooges, King Crimson, Dolly Parton, The Allman Brothers, Kraftwerk, George Harrison, James Brown, Hall and Oates, Peter Gabriel, and Bob Marley … Isn’t that the way they say it goes?”

This round will end on Friday at 9am PST, at which point your upvotes will be counted and we move on to Round 4 (Sweet 16). Downvote if you like, but only upvotes will be counted.
