Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Feb. 27 – Please welcome today’s contestants:
– Paul, a physician from Millington, NJ, who likes art from the northeastern U.S.;
– Amy, an editor from Chicago, IL, who got Jeopardy! over the phone in London; and
– Maryann, a librarian from Cleveland, OH, who knows the best way to watch soccer is with screaming nuns. Maryann is a one-day champ with winnings of $15,801.
Paul had a chance to jump from third to first on DD3, which was the last clue of DJ. But he chose to go for a small wager, which worked out for the best as he missed, so going into FJ it was Maryann with $9,600, Amy at $6,400 and Paul with $4,400.
DD1 – “X” IN THE CITY – Antony and Cleopatra died there in 30 B.C. (Amy lost $1,000)
DD2 – THE FEDERALIST PAPERS – Federalist 74 said, “The dread of being accused of…connivance” would keep Presidents from abusing this power (Maryann lost $3,000)
DD3 – GIVING YOU THE EARTH & THE MOON – Latin name for the large, dark lunar plains that early observers thought were seas (Paul lost $600)
FJ – AMERICANA – A 1931 story in the New Yorker said this “weighs 600,000,000 pounds (&)…contains 37,000,000 cubic feet”
Maryann and Paul were correct on FJ with Maryann adding $3,201 to win with $12,801 and a two-day total of $28,602. It’s about time for Alex to resume moaning about low winning scores again.
That’s before our time: No one remembered that in 1966, Atlantic-Richfield became known as ARCO.
Judging the writers: A clue claimed that “Trapper John M.D.” is a spinoff of TV’s M*A*S*H, but for legal reasons it was established that the show is officially a spinoff of the movie, not the TV version.
