here’s a lot of things to what makes horror work but the one that people often look for, especially when going to the movie theaters themselves, are great jump scares. Going through those as a communal event with others is just intense with the right build-up to it with what it wants to do and achieve. And if it succeeds, it sticks with you for decades, such as the jump scare in the original Alien movie for me.
