The Weekly Music Thread Parties Like It’s 1999

Let’s discuss any and all music here. You’ve got a new artist who’s rocking your boat that you want to talk about? Post a video! Found out about that unearthed Coltrane album that has the jazz freak in you losing your mind? Lay it out for us! Do you have a theory about what your favorite band might do for their next album? Let’s hear it! Anything and everything music-related goes here.

It was twenty years ago today Sgt. Pepper…er, I mean it was twenty years ago this year that it was 1999…uh, my dear?

So in what is a completely original idea that has nothing to do whatsoever with another website:

This week let’s discuss any and all music stuff related to 1999!

Some topics to get you started:

  • What are some of your favorite songs or albums from 1999?
  • What were you listening to in 1999? Is it in any way similar to the music you listen to now? Is there anything you listened to back then that you’re a bit embarrassed by now? Or, is there anything you disliked then that you enjoy hearing now?
  • For those of you who are too young to remember 1999 (or weren’t even born yet) feel free to stand respectfully on the edges of the rest of our lawns and tell us: what, musically, does 1999 mean to you?

And since 1999 was a long time ago, in case you need a reminder of what happened in music that year:

Of course, if you’d rather forget the nineties, feel free to discuss other music-related topics here as well. Have fun, and rock out with yr guac out!

Remember when having even a fragment of a Prince song in the background would have gotten a video taken down from YouTube within hours? As a fan I’m glad his music videos are now readily available in high quality, but I’m not sure if the man himself would have approved of such a development. Oh, well – let’s party like it’s 1999 in 2019 to a song from 1982!
