Hello and welcome to the first annual Tubby Awards, where we pay tribute to the best TV shows and small-screen performances not honored by the weird conglomeration of three separate Academies that give out the Emmy Award.

As with the Snubby Awards, anyone can nominate a show or performance in the relevant category by replying to the category, and anyone can vote for your as many options as you feel are deserving (including your own suggestions!) Top five vote-getters will be nominated, and we will vote on the nominees next week. Winners of next week’s votes will be awarded a gold statue of the gay Teletubby with Susan Lucci’s name inscribed at the base.

To launch the Tubbies, I picked what seemed to be the major categories, without getting too deep into the weeds of guest stars and limited series. If you feel a category was unfairly overlooked — dare we say it, snubbed — or that, like the Snubbies, we should honor aspects of the craft the Academies ignore — feel free to add your own category. If it gets enough of a response, I’ll include it in the second round of voting.

Please limit commentary to the discussion threads so as not to clutter up the potential nominees. And as always, this is not a competition, this is only an exhibition, so I beg of you: no wagering.
