While searching for the missing teens, Ash had taken to donning his superhero getup. The other kids had mocked him for it, calling him a combination of words that I will not bother to repeat here.
The joke was on them when he stumbled upon an abandoned mineshaft. The entrance was blocked with rocks and debris, but Ash managed to find a way to scuttle through.
“I can fit down there. You want to know why? Because I’m little.”
Through the tunnel and down a still-functioning elevator, Ash found a quartet of hooded figures standing around a large hole in the ground. One took a look at him and motioned for him to come forward.
“Look,” he said, pointing to the darkness below.
What Ash saw was blacker than black, blacker than night, blacker than his worst thoughts. The darkness hurtled toward him until he and it were one, and it was only after the fact that he realized he had been pushed.

Officer Molly woke inside a dream.
She was cleaning up graffiti on the town mural. The usual gang signs, “ACAB”s and nonsense. What set this apart from her usual graffiti (and why was she cleaning it? Shouldn’t she be looking for those missing persons?) was that no amount of water would wash it off. The letters, if anything, grew brighter, and started to rearrange themselves.
