Blossoms 666 #3

Recap – “Cheryl and Jason Blossom are in competition to be the one, true Anti-Christ. Following a raucous pool party thrown by the twins, Dilton Doiley, Ethel Muggs, and Reggie Mantle all went missing. The disappearances of the three have had people concerned- most of all being Betty Cooper, who’s determined to prove that there’s something up with the Blossom Twins. Meanwhile, back at the Blossom household, the siblings’ rivalry got more challenging when they learned that they’re not the only two competing- so is Julian, their older brother.”

A flashback opens the issue and its revealed that Mr. and Mrs. Blossom are the parents of triplets and Julian was spirited away after he was born. The Blossom family is finally reunited, and the competition now has an added wrinkle with Julian’s return, much to the dismay of Cheryl and Jason.

The next day at Riverdale High School, Archie tells Jughead and Veronica that he feels guilty for ignoring Betty’s claims about the twins. Betty is absent from school and Veronica reassures the boys she will check on their friend after school. As the gang go their separate ways, Cheryl stops Veronica and asks to speak to her about Betty.

Meanwhile, Betty is doing reconnaissance at the Doiley homestead. Dilton is handcuffed, arrested, and placed in the back of the sheriff’s squad car, as his parents look on in distress, pleading with Dilton to tell the sheriff the truth. Cheryl and Veronica walk around the football field and have a private conversation. Cheryl believes Betty is making up stories about the twins as a way to get Archie’s attention. Veronica, in disbelief, decides to talk to Betty to see if this is true.

Betty is next seen visiting Ethel Muggs about her time in the forest. Ethel is unable to talk about what happened in the woods. Ethel tells Betty to research the Order of Abaddon in the local history section of the library. Betty says she will use this tidbit to help Ethel. As Betty leaves, Jason steps out of Ethel’s closet and gives Ethel kudos for her performance.

At the library, Betty finds a book about the Order of Abaddon, which was formed to oppose wrongful accusations of witchcraft. The order stayed together to perform secret acts of altruism. Betty is shocked to see a photo of her mother and father in the book. As Betty asks the librarian for help, she is stopped by Julian and tells her he is working on the same subject and requests her help finding the truth to stop whatever Cheryl and Jason have set in motion.

The Blossom children are working overtime to see which one is worthy for the title of the Dark One. A possible rift is starting to form between best friends Betty and Veronica. Dilton, most likely innocent, will end up with a one-way ticket to the Green Mile and a date with Old Sparky. Ethel is no longer the happy go lucky woman she once was and how her time in the woods takes a toll on her remains to be seen. The only person that hasn’t been played or swayed yet is Archie, but it’s only a matter of time before he becomes an unwitting pawn. Who will reach him first is anyone’s guess but if he sees Julian and Betty together, it’s only a matter of time before he commits the deadly sin of envy.
