Jeopardy! recap for Thur., Apr. 4 – Today’s contestants are:
– James, a professional sports gambler from Nevada, will bet on anything but couldn’t get any action from Alex;
– Anna, a veterinarian from Illinois, answers pet health questions over the phone; and
– Alex, a regulatory research counselor from Colorado, went scuba diving in Cuba. Alex is a one-day champ with winnings of $26,000.
James doubled up to $10,000 on DD1 and kept rolling from there, putting the game out of reach with a strong wager on DD3. Going into FJ James had a massive $40,412 vs. $18,000 for Alex and $1,600 for Anna (who didn’t get to respond even once in the first round).
DD1, $1,000 – NATURE STICKS IT TO YOU – The venomous stonefish has a blade called a lachrymal saber that pops out from a bone under this body part (James bet “all the chips” to win $5,000)
DD2, $2,000 – WORLD WAR II – Rounds from the Katyusha rocket launcher made a howling sound; German troops called it this enemy leader’s “organ” (Alex won $3,000 – he had $9,000 to wager against $15,400 for James. It was already clear at this point that James is a monster player, so Alex should have gone all-in, which might have kept him alive into FJ.)
DD3, $1,200 – FROM THE GREEK – In ancient Greek comedies, there were 24 in this group of performers (James won $9,812)
FJ – U.S. BODIES OF WATER – The Jordan, Bear and Weber rivers deposit over a million tons of minerals into it annually, much of that chloride and sodium
Everyone was correct on this easy FJ, with James adding $3,268 to win with $43,680. James has the knowledge, buzzer skills, is willing to gamble and understands the strategy of the game. He is without question the “next great champion” the show has been teasing in its promos.
Triple Stumper of the day: The players likely overthought a clue about the stiletto type of this reptile that bites with horizontal fangs, a snake.
That’s before our time: No one could identify a photo the sporty Volkswagen coupe that debuted in 1955, the Karmann Ghia.
This day in Trebekistan: Alex offered his impression of Cookie Monster going “Om nom nom nom”.
DD1 – What is eye?
DD2 – Who was Stalin?
DD3 – What is a chorus?
