Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Jan. 9

Jeopardy! recap for Wed., Jan. 9 – Please welcome today’s contestants:

– Evan, a student-writer from Georgia, hitchhiked in Morocco;
– Siobhan, an attorney from Arkansas, took a toboggan down the Great Wall of China; and
– Jessica, an art education student from Texas, attracts Mexican brown bats. Jessica is a one-day champ with winnings of $26,001.

Siobhan made a strong move in a category about composers and finished well in quotations to hold the lead into FJ with $19,400 vs. $14,200 for Jessica and $8,400 for Evan.

DD1 ($400) – THE BOOK’S CENSORED EDITIONS – Seen as obscene, Richard Burton’s 1885 version of this book of mideast fables was published with major cuts (Siobhan won $2,000 on a true DD.)

DD2 ($1,200) – PLACES – The lush island of Naxos has been called “the green leaf of” this sea (Evan won $1,200)

DD3 ($2,000) – BARTLETT’S A TO Z – Z: Attributed to this revolutionary, “It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!” (Siobhan won $1,600 – something to consider when wagering on this DD is that we knew the response would begin with “Z”, which really narrows it down.)

FJ – TV DRAMAS – So that viewers wouldn’t think it was about opera, the “r” in this show’s logo was turned into a gun

Surprisingly, only Jessica was correct on FJ, doubling up to $28,400 for a two-day total of $54,401.

Triple Stumper of the day: The catch phrase “Oh, yeah!” didn’t lead the players to non-carbonated beverage Kool-Aid.

Cartoon conundrums: No one knew Snoopy’s “ultra-hip” persona Joe Cool, or the “family” cartoonist whose name starts with “A” and whose caption read “My I borrow a cup of cyanide?” is Addams.

Jeopardy! rule book: For a clue about “On the Origin of Species”, adding another “the” to the title without the “On” is incorrect, but leaving off “On” without the second “the” is fine.

Correct Qs:
DD1 – What is “The Arabian Nights”?
DD2 – What is the Aegean Sea?
DD3 – Who was Zapata?
FJ – What is “The Sopranos”?
