Public Domain Theater Presents: His Girl Friday (& “Superman”)

Welcome to Public Domain Theater, your home for the wonderful world of films that have (in the United States, at least) fallen into the public domain, and are free for everyone to see!

This Saturday, we’re presenting the screwball comedy classic, His Girl Friday. Based on the stage play The Front Page by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, this romantic comedy about the seedy world of journalism was directed by Howard Hawks, and stars Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell.

But before we jump into our tale of fast-talking journalists who’ll do absolutely anything to get a good story, we have a pair of more heroic reporters in our opening cartoon, the Fleischer Brothers’ produced short “Superman” (also known as “The Mad Scientist”).

Grab some popcorn, settle in, and enjoy these classic pictures straight from the Public Domain!
