If you know anything about me at all, you know that I like modernist design and architecture, contemporary classical music, cities, cars, and broccoli on pizza.

But what I bet you didn’t know is that I absolutely love going to the county fair. It runs for a few weeks every summer, and it has a model farm, exhibits of crafts and collections by local people, rides, crazy, unhealthy foods, and all kinds of competitions, from pie making to pie eating. I love it so much, we bought passes this year. In fact, my wife and I are leaving work early to go this afternoon, the opening day of the Orange County Fair.

So what’s something you like that is completely off-brand for you?
