I’m 95% certain that all of these are coming out this week since none of them are ports of games made by French developer Delphine (I’m looking at you Flashback and Another World). Speaking of, there are a TON of ports and remakes from other companies coming out this week, so I hope you like reheated leftovers!
Top Releases:
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit (PC/PS4/Xbox One)
Developed by: Dontnod
Published by: Square Enix
I know that Life is Strange has a rabid cult following so I hope they’ll enjoy this game that is supposed to set up the events in Life is Strange 2. I know almost nothing about this game series so my interest is very low, but it’s totally free so there’s really no risk in giving the game a try. Who hasn’t wanted to play a game as a kid who pretends to have super powers, fights monsters, flies spaceships, and has a dad who drinks beer for breakfast, right? We’ve all been children! BTW, this already has full ‘let’s play’ videos on YouTube, so that’s cool I guess.
The Crew 2 (PC/PS4/Xbox One) – Releases on Friday, June 29th
Developed by: Ivory Tower
Published by: Ubisoft
This seems like one of those game series that flies under the radar. I don’t really know anybody who loved the first game, but it had at least one expansion, right? I ended up playing it when it was the Free Game With Gold offering and had a pretty good time with it, even if it was missing “America’s Finest City” from their map of the United States. Like most Ubisoft open world games, the first game suffered from a map with icons barfed up all over it. Here’s to hoping part 2 pulls back from that a bit.
Fighting EX Layer (PS4) – Releases on Thursday, June 28th
Developed by: Arika
Published by: Arika
Originally announced on April Fool’s Day, this fighting game from Arika is a spiritual successor to their Street Fighter EX games that came out 20+ years ago. For those who don’t remember, it was a 3D fighting game in the same vein as Virtua Fighter, Tekken, and countless other polygon graphics based fighting games that were newly popular at the time. This new fighting game looks pretty good and I’m excited to give it a try during the inevitable Golden Week PS4 sale.
MXGP PRO (PC/PS4/Xbox One) – Releases on Friday, June 29th
Developed by: Milestone
Published by: Milestone
Yet another open world racing game this week, however this one is focused solely on motocross, so it might be a bit more focused in its design. Needless to say, if you love driving vehicles really fast and doing insane stunts, then this week is about as good as it gets.
Everything else:
As I mentioned earlier there are a lot of ports coming out this week, check ‘em:
Far Cry 3 Classic Edition (PS4/Xbox One) – Should have been Far Cry 2.
de Blob (Switch) – Who told you I was bitter that I bought this for the Wii 3 months ago? Who?? Well I’m not bitter, not bitter at all…
Lumines Remastered (PC/PS4/Switch/Xbox One) – I guess we can all throw away our PSP copies now.
Neir: Automata – Become as Gods Edition (Xbox One) – One of the best PS4 games of all time is now available on the Xbox One and the world rejoiced!
Paranautical Activity (Switch) – A port of the PC/PS4/Vita/Xbone/Wii U game. If you missed this FPS with Minecraft style graphics on any of those previous systems now is your chance to play it on the Switch, unless it gets delayed and the creator sends a death threat to Reggie Fils-Aimé (Look it up).
Galak-Z: Variant S (Switch) – Releases on the 28th. It’s our weekly “mobile game ported to the Switch” game!
Pokemon Quest (Android/iOS) – Releases on the 28th. It’s our weekly “Switch game ported to mobile” game! Wait, what?
Crash N’Sane Trilogy (PC/Switch/Xbox One) – Releases on the 29th. Another PS4 exclusive joins the Xbox One library this week, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that Nier: Automata is the better choice as only 90’s kids will understand Crash Bandicoot.
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus (Switch) – Releases on the 29th. Killing Nazis on the go has never been more fun! I haven’t played this but I remember some people not liking it. I think Merve hated it, he can talk about it in the comments.
Finally…
Mario + Rabbids: Donkey Kong Adventure (Switch) – DK joins the battle to help the Rabbids do whatever it is they’re doing in this game. I haven’t played it, let me know if I should.
