So after doing their best to keep information for this on lockdown, Sony released a lot of information alongside this trailer. Let’s see what they have to say:

“Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative minds behind The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, bring their unique talents to a fresh vision of a different Spider-Man Universe, with a groundbreaking visual style that’s the first of its kind.  Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.”

“Jake Johnson is joining the cast as Miles’ reluctant mentor, Peter Parker, with Liev Schreiber playing the larger-than-life crime lord Kingpin, Hailee Steinfeld playing the spunky, free-spirited Spider-Gwen, Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali as Miles’ influential uncle Aaron, Brian Tyree Henry playing Miles’ father Jefferson, Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’ mother Rio, and Lily Tomlin as Aunt May.”

Something I find interesting here that’s evident from both the synopsis and the trailer is that it’s evident they’re not going all-in on the Spider-verse premise and *event* from the comics from the get-go. I’m sure every Spider-person in every reality teaming up to prevent their erasure from existence will be the big trilogy-conclusion if this does well, and by God do I hope this does well, but for now we’ll just focus on a smaller-scale plot to introduce and develop some of the most popular members of the Spider-verse for the big screen for the first time.

I don’t really have much more immediate discussion of the trailer beyond that I fucking love its comic book sound and visual effect stylings and generally think that it’s gorgeous. I’m not a huge fan of Jake Johnson generally, so I’ll have to give him a chance here based on kinda liking what he has in the trailer, but really he doesn’t matter because we got
