Welcome to the inaugural entry of Film Club!

This is essentially a book club for film. Every Sunday, a volunteer will choose a film for everyone to watch and then on the following Sunday at 3 PM EST post a discussion thread. Writing a full movie review is not required but is highly encouraged! The date/time for this is up for debate! I just picked Sunday so everyone has a full week to find and watch the movie.

My hope is to create a space where film-loving members of The Avocado can discuss and debate all aspects of a given film, with respect for one another and the people involved in making the film. Baseless criticism or insults are not conducive to meaningful conversation and will not be indulged.

A sign-up sheet is available here. I’m going to ask a moderator to add the link under the Sign-Up Sheets section of the site menu. For the first few weeks, I can post regular reminders in Open Threads and other threads to drum up interest. If you chose to sign-up, feel free to do as much or as little promotion as you want/can manage.

The Nitty Gritty

Any film chosen must be easily accessible via LEGAL online streaming sites/apps OR rentable from a local library or a Redbox type service for little to no cost. I’ve compiled a list of recommended sites & resources below and please let me know of more legal sites you’d like added to the list. Within the discussion thread next week, I’ll post some sub-threads to jump start conversation around Direction, Acting, Plot/Pacing, Cinematography, etc. I’m still working on the format for the thread going forward and I’m open to suggestions!
