Jeopardy! recap for Tue., Feb. 13 – Please welcome today’s contestants:
– Emily, a midwife from San Bruno, CA, who lured her husband with her singing and is “adorable”;
– Frank, a utility locator from Mesa, AZ, who hiked the Grand Canyon in one day; and
– Marty, an accountant and voice artist from Arvada, CO, whose Donald Duck is no threat to Johnny Gilbert. Marty is a three-day champ with winnings of $65,900.
Marty went 0-for-3 on DD opportunities, but thanks to getting the last clue of DJ, he broke Frank’s runaway and stayed alive with $9,000 vs. $16,000 for Frank and $3,800 for Emily.
DD1 – AIRPORTS NAMED FOR PEOPLE – Cities in Greece and Macedonia both have airports named for this man (Marty lost $1,000)
DD2 – PRESIDENTIAL QUOTES – In 1832 Andrew Jackson complained that this institution “is trying to kill me, but I will kill it” (Marty lost $2,000)
DD3 – NOVEL “T”s – In Audrey Niffenegger’s bestseller, Clare Abshire DeTamble is this title spouse (Marty lost $2,000)
FJ – CLASSIC TV HOMES – In 2017 the Bel-Air estate used in this ’60s TV show was listed for $350 million
Frank and Marty were correct on FJ, with Frank adding $6,999 to win with $22,999.
Triple Stumper of the day: No one knew that Mr. Giles from Sunnydale High on “Buffy” is a librarian.
Clue selection strategy: The players smartly got the time-consuming “Jay Leno’s Garage” category out of the way first. It resulted in four leftovers in round one, but they were able to clear the board in the bigger-money DJ round.
Just how time-consuming was the Leno category? It took two full minutes to complete, including a bloated 20-second clue which was essentially “Identify this photo of Charles de Gaulle”. The combined scores at the merciful end of the category: minus $1,000.
Correct Qs:
DD1 – Who was Alexander?
DD2 – What is the Bank?
DD3 – What is “The Time Traveler’s Wife”?
FJ – What is “The Beverly Hillbillies”?
