Moviegoers were treated to a carnival of so-so delights this past weekend, with your new choices being a romance film that mistakes relationship warning signs for S+M, a children’s movie that Shrekifies its source material for the hip young people, or a Clint Eastwood drama in which a bunch of normal people play themselves, reenacting what was probably the worst day of their lives. Audiences expressed moderate interest, with each film grossing 40-70% of its budget.

Winchester, last week’s high opener, dropped from third to seventh. (A friend and I went to see it as a compromise choice, and it was actually better than we’d expected.) Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, an old friend to this column, finally dropped below second place for the first time since premiering, even though it only fell 10% since last week. The Greatest Showman remains unkillable in fifth place, with a similarly slight 17% drop.
