Werewolf XXXI: Culinary Catastrophe, Day One: Cocktails (or Death in the Afternoon)

The Murderous Melonballer:

Ingredients:

¼ cup water
¼ cup granulated sugar
8 cups diced, seedless watermelon (~1 pound)
¼ cup fresh lime juice
1 ¾ cups blueberries
¾ cup lightly packed fresh mint leaves, plus a mint sprig for garnish on each glass
1 ¼ cups silver tequila
Ice

Directions:

1) Make a simple syrup by bringing the water to a simmer with the sugar, and stir over moderate heat until the sugar is dissolved, about 1 minute. Let the syrup cool.

2) In a blender, puree the watermelon until smooth. Set a fine-mesh strainer over a bowl and strain the watermelon juice, pressing gently on the pulp to extract as much juice as possible. Discard the pulp.

3) In a large pitcher, combine the simple syrup with the lime juice, blueberries, and mint leaves. Using a wooden spoon, lightly muddle the blueberries and mint. Add the watermelon juice and tequila. Refrigerate until chilled.

4) Pour the cocktail into large, ice-filled glasses and garnish with mint sprigs.

Mountain mist hangs heavy in the air, an oddly ominous beginning to what is sure to be a bright and dazzling new year of study at Le Loup de la Lune Culinary Academy. Though the students here are already bright stars in the firmament in the world of cuisine, their ambition drives them to strive for even greater heights, even if it means stepping on each other to do so. Competition is cutthroat, a phrase that is unfortunately about to become a little too literal.

After heading to your dormitory room to unpack your clothes, tools, and books, you find a note slipped under your door from Headmaster Mustard, inviting you to an introductory cocktail hour in the lounge. You freshen up and head down to meet the other chefs foolish enough to think they can match your skills. The lounge is packed to the gills with ingredients to make just about any drink you can dream up, and once you’ve got your glass in hand, you begin to mingle.

Before you can get too far, though, Headmaster Mustard enters with a grim expression on his face. “Welcome to Le Loup de la Lune,” he says perfunctorily. “I wish I could give you a proper reception, but I have some very distressing news. It seems that a handful of bad apples have found their way into the barrel. I’ve just been going over the ingredient manifests, and found that some extremely debilitating and lethal poisons were delivered here recently. I have no idea who among you is behind this, but nobody is leaving this academy until the plotters are unmasked and dealt with.”

You all exchange suspicious glances, with only the sound of gently tinkling ice to break the silence. The academy is cut off from civilization. There are no authorities to be summoned. You’ll have to administer justice yourselves.

Factions:
7 Chefs (Vanilla Town)
1 Taste Tester (Cop)
1 Dorm Prefect (Jailkeeper)
4 Poisoners (Wolves)

Day One Reminders:

The Poisoners [Wolves] know who each other are and share a private chat. Everyone else does not know who each other are, or who the Poisoners are, and can generally only communicate on the open game thread. The Taste Tester may use a Night action to check the alignment of another player. The Dorm Prefect may use a Night action to protect another player from being night-killed by a Poisoner. However, this action also prevents the protected player from activating any role of their own.

A player’s faction (and any powers) will be revealed upon death. Dead players should not chat in the game threads (though they can say good-bye as they depart for the all-you-can-eat buffet in the sky). Dead players will also get a link to The Graveyard, where they can discuss the ongoing game.

You vote by replying to the very first comment, appropriately titled VOTE THREAD. It is easy to find if you sort comments by oldest. To change your vote, simply post another reply. DO NOT EDIT ANY VOTE. Only votes posted as a reply to the official VOTE THREAD will count.

You may also choose not to vote for anybody, in which case please cast a “No lynch” vote in the vote thread. If the vote is tied at Twilight (end of day), nobody will be lynched. Please make at least 3 posts per game-day, or you may be replaced.

DO NOT EDIT POSTS. Sorry you misspelled a word or made a coding snafu or confused the salt for the sugar, but it’s here to stay. NO editing allowed. Read through and think carefully about your comment before posting it. Editing a post may get you mod-killed, and nobody wants that.

DO NOT QUOTE OR POST A SCREENSHOT FROM A QT TO THE MAIN DAY THREADS. You are free to make claims about your powers and allegiance on the day threads, but those claims will not be confirmed or denied by the moderator.

Day One will last about 24 hours, but may be extended if people enter cocktail hour fashionably late. Typical Days will last 24 hours unless a majority vote is reached before that. A typical Night will last 12 hours. Day/Night lengths may be adjusted if necessary.

If you have questions that may reveal sensitive information, feel free to ask them in your personal QT. Please note that you are encouraged to ask questions about the rules of the game, how your powers work, and whatever else comes to mind. This academy is full of secrets, and you would be wise not to take everything at face value. Check your QTs often!

Role-playing is encouraged, but not required. Attack arguments, not people. And above all else, have fun!
